Short list
The African Women in Art Award (AWAA), a competition for women artists from Sub-Saharan African countries, has unveiled its list of finalists. This year, the theme of the competition, "Mother Africa," invited artists to explore and celebrate the essence of African identity, heritage, and the nurturing spirit of the continent through their creative works.
The international jury selected artists who demonstrate a remarkable synthesis of creativity and innovation, reflecting the diverse cultural heritage and contemporary perspectives of African women. The finalists include both established masters and emerging artists from countries such as Nigeria, Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, and Ethiopia. Their works blend unique traditional influences with modern forms of self-expression, resonating with audiences both locally and internationally.
The shortlist is divided into two categories:
Rising Artists and Established Masters.

Rising Artists

This category highlights new talents whose works are recognized for their innovation, fresh perspective, use of new techniques, and integration with modern communications.

Established Masters

This category features experienced artists who share their expertise and insights, drawing from a wealth of professional experience in training and exhibitions.
